Gorgeous 1907 Liberty Quarter Eagle NGC PR67 Cameo

The Philadelphia Mint produced 154 proof Liberty quarter eagles in 1907, the final year of the Liberty design. The coins were delivered in quarterly batches of 60, 29, 23, and 42 pieces. A single pair of dies was used to strike the proofs, with a paper clip shaped artifact on the bust tip and four nearly horizontal die lines in the second clear space in the shield, making it easy to differentiate between proofs and prooflike business strikes. John Dannreuther estimates the surviving population at 100-120 examples in all grades. The NGC population is 9 with 9 graded higher.

Listed at $26,400 in the CDN CPG and $30,000 in the NGC price guide.

1883 Liberty Half Eagle NGC PR65 DCAM

Proof $5 Lib Rarity

The 1883 proof Liberty half eagle claims a mintage of 61 pieces, a notable increase over the previous year, but still a tiny number in absolute terms. Forty examples were issued with the proof sets on February 10 and the rest were struck as individual pieces throughout the year. Unfortunately, the higher mintage just off-set a low survival rate for this issue, and the surviving population is not noticeably larger than those of previous years. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth note, “There are fewer than 20 coins traceable today, including those in museum collections.” In hand this beauty is more yellow-gold hue than the red-orange seen in our images. The NGC population stands at just 2 with 2 higher.

1846 (Medium Date) Seated Liberty Half Dollar PCGS/CAC PR62

Extremely Rare

The 1846 half dollar displays two date sizes–Medium Date and Large Date. The two varieties are easily distinguished by inspection of the 4 in the date. The Medium Date 4 is connected between the lower serif of the crossbar and the base, whereas the Large Date 4 has a noticeable separation in this area. Almost all of the proof 1846 half dollars are of the Medium Date variety. The example offered here is lighter and its surfaces, noticeably more reflective, in-hand. The proof mintage is unknown. However, the number of survivors is low – probably less than two dozen. The PCGS population is only 2 with 9 higher.

1825 Capped Bust Dime NGC PR65

According to some estimates, only six Proof 1825 dimes are known in all grades. Currently, the NGC population is just three, including this one and one graded higher. And the PCGS population is only one. While not apparent in our images, this example is richly and attractively toned in turquoise hues with traces of violet. The surfaces are fully reflective, including within the reverse shield stripes – a trait that PL business strikes are unlikely to exhibit. This is a truly rare and desirable coin!
