1910-S Indian Eagle NGC MS64

The 1910-S Indian eagle’s high mintage of 811,000 coins is deceiving. Availability was drastically reduced in the mid-1930s during the massive gold melts. Mint State survivors are seldom available, typically grading only in the MS62 and lower range. The date is scarce in MS63, and rare at grades beyond that. That’s easily illustrated by the NGC population of 23 with 6 graded higher. The one offered here is clean and attractive.

Listed at $14,400 in the CDN CPG and $17,500 in the NGC price guide.

Offered at $14,200

1910-D Saint Gaudens Double Eagle NGC MS67

1 of Just 2 So-Graded

The Denver Mint coined a substantial number of double eagles in its fifth year of operation, 429,000 according to Mint records, and surviving specimens are plentiful in all grades through MS65 and somewhat available at the MS66 level. However, finer pieces are rare. There are no reports of hoards in the literature, although repatriated European and South American exports undoubtedly account for most Mint State pieces known today. The NGC population is just 2 with none higher.

1910 Indian Quarter Eagle NGC MS66

Pristine Looking, Golden-Orange

The 1910 Indian quarter eagle is one of the better-struck issues in the early part of the series, frequently seen with rich luster and bold design elements. The challenge comes in finding an example with minimal abrasions, as the typical coin is affected by numerous faint ticks and surface grazes that limit the grade, as well as the eye appeal. This particular representative, therefore, will be a refreshing reward for the patient buyer. The NGC population is just 18 with none graded higher.

1910-S Saint Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS65+

Gem, and Then Some

Roger Burdette estimates a total of 9,500 pieces survive from a mintage of more than 2.1 million 1910-S double eagles. About 70-75% of those were repatriated from foreign holdings. Such coins would be an unlikely source for an example of this quality, given the rigors of transit and storage. This particular example offers lovely color and atypically clean surfaces, as well as a very nice overall appearance. The PCGS population currently stands at just 6 with 13 higher. Listed at $12,500 in the PCGS price guide.

1910-D $20 St. Gaudens PCGS MS 66

A Grading Rarity – Only 14 graded higher by PCGS and NGC Combined!

High grade and flashy, with no distracting marks – a finer specimen would be hard to locate. Sports a gorgeous medium gold color and a superb strike. From an original mintage of 429,000, most were used in commerce in the USA or internationally – hence, the paucity of high grade specimens, such as the one we are featuring today.
