Blast White1904-S Barber Half NGC MS65

Pop 1. Two Finer at NGC. Blast white. A meager mintage of 553,038 Barber Half Dollars was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1904. Most of the mintage circulated heavily in the regional economy and few high-quality examples were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, the 1904-S is one of the most challenging issues in the Barber Half Dollar series, especially in high grade. This spectacular Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements. The virtually pristine brilliant surfaces are lustrous and appealing. Nice Price Guide comp, too!

1895-O Barber Half Dollar NGC MS67

One of Only Two

With a mintage of more than 1.7 million half dollars, the 1895-O is available in a wide range of grades up to MS63 or even MS64. However, Gem or finer examples of this issue are important condition rarities and the top- grade coins rarely get credit for their importance to collectors. NGC has graded only 12 pieces MS65 or higher, including this and one MS67 Star-designated example, which are tied for the highest.

1914 Barber Half Dollar NGC MS66

Better Date, Highest Graded

The 1914 has the lowest mintage of the Barber half dollars at 124,230 pieces, helping to make it one of the key dates in the series. A few hundred examples have been certified through Very Fine. While the population declines in finer grades, the issue can still be located with patience and searching through about MS64. Gems are rare and higher-grade specimens are virtually unobtainable. This is the only MS66 graded by NGC with none higher. Here is an eye-catching, virtually color-free example.

1899 Barber Half Dollar PCGS MS67

Pop 2, 1 Higher

While the 1899 Barber half dollar is more plentiful than the 1896 and 1898 issues, it is a condition rarity in Gem or finer grades. A lack of interest in business strike Philadelphia Mint issues at the time of issue is largely responsible for the low high-grade survival rate. Prior to the 1980s, most collectors sought out proof coins for the sole reason that they were considered more desirable from an aesthetics viewpoint. The PCGS population is just 2 with a single (MS67+) example graded higher.

Sharp, Flashy 1901-S Barber Half Dollar PCGS MS65

The 1901-S is the rarest of the first-year 20th century Barber halves, and it boasts the lowest mintage of the three at barely more than 847,000 pieces. The Complete Guide to Certified Barber Coinage ranks this tricky issue third in Mint State rarity, surpassed only by the 1904-S and 1896-O emissions. Circulated examples demand a premium in all grades, and Mint State coins are rarely seen. The one offered here is virtually white, sharply struck and flashy, with plenty of eye appeal. The PCGS population is a mere 6 with 7 higher. Listed at $12,700 in the CDN CPG, $13,000 in the PCGS price guide and $12,500 in Trends.

Offered at $11,850 delivered
