The 1883-O Eagle is believed by experts to be the rarest coin of the denomination produced at the New Orleans Mint, and is indeed one of the rarest coins ever struck at that Mint at all.
With just 35-45 pieces known in all grades, finding one is a challenge. However, the true rarity of this date rests in the fact that few collectors ever let it loose once acquired.
